Ganhuangcao, a traditional Chinese medicine name. The whole plant of Penthorum chinense Pursh, a species of the genus Penthorum in the Saxifragaceae family, is mainly distributed in Northeast China, North China, South China and Southwest China. It has the effects of promoting diuresis and eliminating dampness, removing blood stasis and relieving pain. It is used for jaundice, edema, injuries from falls and blows, and swelling and pain.
Specification: 4:1 10:1
Ganhuangcao is cool in nature and bitter in taste, and it belongs to the liver and gallbladder meridians. Traditionally, it is used to relieve symptoms such as sore throat and swollen sores and abscesses caused by excessive internal heat toxins. In folk medicine, fresh grass is often crushed and applied externally or decocted and taken internally.
Because of its significant diuretic effect, it is often used as an adjunctive treatment for damp-heat jaundice (such as acute hepatitis and cholecystitis). Clinical observations have found that it can promote bile excretion and improve the related indicators of jaundice.
The components such as quercetin and gallic acid in Ganhuangcao can alleviate liver cell damage and inhibit the process of liver fibrosis. It is often used for the conditioning of chronic liver diseases (such as fatty liver and alcoholic liver).
